Practise Silence – Tips from Patricia

Few days ago I started reading a very interesting book, where on first pages the author describes something that spoke to my mind so vividly that within seconds I understood the whole concept clearly. I would like to share that with you:
Imagine a lake in early morning with its waters completely still and calm. If you throw even a tiny stone into that calm water, it would create ripples and waves very clearly visible. But if you imagine fast running river or violent sea at storm, and you will throw even the biggest rock into it, or even any other massive object – it would go in probably unnoticed. It was a metaphor for mind. Author claimed that when your mind is calm and peaceful, like the lake, even your smallest intention would have extremely powerful effect. On the other hand – if you mind is troubled and busy with overthinking, you will fail to attract to your life the things you want, no matter how big your dreams and desires are.
To be successful you need to work on achieving peaceful, calm and quiet mind.

But how to do that?
Well, number one recommendation was meditation. Of course meditation! I read many articles, books, I watched many documentaries and meditation is mentioned almost everywhere. As if meditation is a remedy for everything.
However I found second point mentioned by the author as an interesting novelty. He claimed we should be practicing silence. Practising silence means making commitment to take certain amount of time to simply be. It’s withdrawing yourself from the activity of speech – so not talking to anybody but also not watching TV, listening to music, reading books or using a phone. Initially start from short period, like one hour, and with time we can extend these periods of silence as the best effects are supposed to be after few days. Why? Because if you never give yourself an opportunity to experience silence, this creates turbulence in your internal dialogue. Initially your internal dialogue becomes even more turbulent. You feel intense need to say something. There will be a sense of urgency and anxiety. And after a day or two it would finally give up and we will be ready to experience the calmness. Funnily nowadays we are always surrounded by people, we always have something to do, especially on our phones, we always have something to keep us busy so the idea of not doing literally anything and being left with our own mind can be somehow terrifying.

Stillness is the first requirement to manifesting your desires.
Another way to access the field of pure potentiality and ability to fulfil dreams you have is through the practice of non-judgement. Judgement is the constant evaluation of things as wrong or right, good or bad. When you are constantly classifying, labelling, analysing, you create a lot of turbulence in your internal dialogue. This turbulence constricts the flow of energy.

Through meditation, through silence and through non- judgement you will access pure potentiality and once you start doing that, you can add the fourth component to this practice – regularly spending time in direct communication with nature. For me it is easy – as an owner of a large dog that requires plenty of exercise, every day I am spending a lot of time in parks and forests.
But what if you don’t have a dog to walk? Well… you could always borrow mine. If walking a dog is not an option for you, luckily London is full for parks. Maybe you could get off a station earlier or take slightly different route to be able to come back home through the park?
The book is full of interesting information and I just mentioned small portion of it. I am actually still reading it so I am sure I have plenty to learn/discover.
